In an effort to extend the life of catalyticconverters the EPA and the OEM engine
manufacturers have instructed the motor oilcompanies to reduce the levels of ZDDP (zincdialkyldithiophosphate) in the oil. The ZDDPwhen present in the exhaust gas can coatthe catalyst which results in higher emissionsand shortens the service life of the catalyticconverter. This reduced ZDDP approachworks well to protect the catalytic convertersbut leaves many older and high performance
engines without the proper EP (extremepressure) wear protection they need to protectthe cams, lifters and rocker arms. Virtually allnon-roller cam designed engines are at riskfor significant wear problems.
