OXIDATION RESISTANCE AND DEPOSIT CONTROL

The PANEL COKER TEST* measures the deposit forming tendency of oil at high temperatures. Engine oil is splashed onto a heated aluminium plate. At the end of the test period, the plate is visually inspected and weighed to determine the amount of deposits. Oils with superior high temperature deposit control will exhibit smaller weight gains.

Better deposit control means less deposits forming on critical engine parts, causing loss in performance.

SOOT/WEAR PERFORMANCE AND VISCOSITY CONTROL

The SOOT THICKENING TEST* measures the time for a volume of oil carrying a specified amount of carbon black to flow through a calibrated viscometer. Results are reported as viscosity increases. The smaller the percent viscosity increase, the better the soot dispersancy of the oil.

Better soot dispersancy means less wear on critical engine parts and better viscosity control.

HIGH TEMPERATURE DEPOSIT FORMATION

Minimizing piston deposits and power cylinder wear controls oil consumption and helps provide maximum engine reliability. Ursa Premium TDX SAE 15W-40 outperformed four competitive products and was the only heavy-duty motor oil to pass the *CATERPILLAR MICRO OXIDATION TEST (CMOT).

2. Run field test for a year and monitor oil consumption to qualify.
